What a beautiful day we’ve had here in Blighty…..heaven :-)

Today has been spent sitting in the garden and walking in Hawthorn Dene with the pup. Hawthorn Dene is beautiful and it is starting come alive :-)

Anyway…..today is SUPERFOOD SUNDAY! And today it’s all about the KIWI FRUIT!

Kiwi deliciousness!

Kiwi fruits contain about as much potassium as bananas, and also contain 1.5 times the DRI for Vitamin C. It is also rich in Vitamins A and E, and its black seeds can be crushed to produce kiwi fruit oil, which is very rich in Alfa-Linoleic Acid (an important Omega-3 essential fatty acid)

Studies have proven that kiwifruits are useful in improving conditions of asthmatic children, and in decreasing the probability of colon cancer by providing a good amount of dietary fiber (source)

My sister is an Optician and she also says that kiwis are stellar for reducing degenerative eye diseases….man can this fruit get any better?! I think not!

Now some might say that today’s kiwi recipe is kinda boring…..but I was more interested in the garden than the kitchen today :-)   We gotta make the most of this beautiful weather because it is so rare! Anyway….my KIWI COLADA smoothie was a welcome treat in the afternoon sun :-)

KIWI COLADA

- 3 pineapple rings

- 1 small frozen banana

- 3 chopped kiwis

- 5 raspberries

- 6 large ice cubes (or more if you’d like)

Blend. Pour.Drink.

I hope you all had a fun in the sun day too…..Monday tomorrow……time really does fly

  1. It has been a gorgeous weekend hasn’t it? Loved it! Had two barbeques :D Definitely thinking I might have to make a kiwi colada to go with my next one though!!

Yes Katie’s bake sale was amazing! Did you bid on/win anything? I’m going to put the marshmallow recipe up probably when I make the batch for the winner! Oh and thanks for the compliments on my photos :D

  2. That smoothie looks incredible! Reminds me of warm weather, sun and beaches. Sigh, summer could not come soon enough. I always forget about kiwi for some reason, but with all those vitamins maybe I should go put them on my grocery list.

  3. I absolutely love kiwis! I haven’t had them in forever though. :( That kiwi coloda sounds delicious though, so I think I should definitely pick some up soon. :)

  4. Yummy! That looks absolutely delicious. I love your blog girl it is great. I need all the nutrition help I can get.

Thanks for the comment on my blog. I was able to find your now and am excited to follow. Have a fabulous day.

  5. Very interesting post – definitely need to get eatin’ more kiwis! I used to eat them regularly as a kid but not anymore. I seem to stick with bananas, apples, and pears now. Maybe I’ve just got boring as I’ve got older?
